I liked The Lord of the Rings, and even Harry Potter when I was younger. Are there any other Fantasy or Science Fiction novels I could read, for example, this summer?
Indeed there are. Once you've read Tolkien, you know the basis about fantasy worlds to start reading something else, perhaps more interesting to you now you've grown up a bit. A world where Good and Evil are not related to beauty, for example (Handsome = Good; Ugly = Evil). Ok ok, don't think I dislike Tolkien cause I do not. Tolkien was a master, though not a professional writer. He made a perfect setup for many other fantasy novels, and it's still being honored for that. There is something new now, something we'll call: The Next Generation Fantasy Writers.
First of all, and mastering the Fantasy genre today is Mr. George R. R. Martin. This amazing writer is now known for his best fantasy series starting with 'A Game of Thones'. It won't deceive you, I assure you. You can find this novel and the next ones of this same series anywhere now: Libreria Gigamesh, FNAC, El Corte Inglés, etc... I encourage you to start with this novel this summer and let me know your opinion.
Following Mr. Martin, there's Joe Abercrombie with 'The Blade Itself' (three novels in this serie). Abercrombie is Martin's best disciple, so another big amazing series you can start reading this summer (only avalaible in Liberia Gigamesh at the moment).
If what you like is science fiction, best novels out there are: Vernor Vinge with 'A Deepness in the Sky', Joe Shepherd with 'Crossover', Charles Stross with 'The Atrocity Archives', and perhaps Richard Morgan with 'Altered Carbon'.
See you next week with my review of one of these novels.
Happy reading!
